Eco Power

Sustainability has always been important to us as a family and a business and we’re sure it’s a consideration for you when booking a break so here’s a bit of information about how we try to make a difference…

sustainability

We are now able to offer electric car charging for our guests during their stay; simply let us know prior to or on arrival that you will need to make use of the charging point during your stay and we will provide you with an app and payment card to operate the machine.

sustainability

We do all our own laundry for the site at our in-house facility at the farm. We select more economical programmes on our machines to suit our turnarounds. The laundry building is powered by solar energy, with panels fitted to the potato store roofs.

Our changeover team use an electric golf buggy to transport all the washing from the site back to the Laundry facility at the farm and again for transporting clean linen back to get the tents and lodges ready for arrivals; it’s amazing how much we can fit in here!

The Lakes Heat Your Showers!

When we began setting up the site back in 2016, we discussed with our heating engineers that the most efficient and sustainable way to heat the water for the showers, sinks and underfloor heating in the washrooms was to utilise the lakes themselves.

It was a no-brainer as a resource to use, the lake where the lodges are situated is very deep so it’s perfect for a lakebed ground-source heating system.

So how does it work?

Our Heating Engineer friends explain that it works almost in the opposite way to a fridge…Lengths of pipes connected to a boiler in our plantroom were sailed onto the top of the lake and then weighted down to reach the bed of the lake.

A solution in these pipes tries to freeze the lakes but of course will never be able to do so as the volume of water is so huge; instead, the energy that those excited molecules create in the solution inside the pipes in turn increases the temperature very slightly.

When that loop of pipe with the solution gets back to the boiler in the plantroom, it affects enough of a change to set the temperature of those lovely showers to a perfectly nice and steamy 45 degrees!

Work on the groundworks for the washrooms using the lakebed ground source heating system began in 2016, when we also planted various shrubs and trees to landscape the site.

Since then the team, with the help of others, have continued to maintain and enhance the site by planting hundreds more trees and shrubs.

glamping facilities

The washrooms are always nice and toasty with the underfloor heating provided by the ground source heating system. This sustainable system also heats the showers and hot water at the sinks.

These washrooms are a nice surprise to some guests who don’t normally see themselves as ‘campers’ as they realise there’s no roughing it here!

Ethically Sourced Wood for Log Burners

The majority of the seasoned wood we supply on site for guests to use on their log burners, firepits and wood-fired hot tubs is sourced from a local tree surgeon and is Woodsure-Approved.

Occasionally, we are able to supplement this with wood felled by the tree surgeon and team from around lakes and our surrounding farmland, so it’s a super sustainable resource.
